Beyblade Burst Evolution on Télétoon; Mary and the Witch’s Flower in theatres next month
TV Passport is indicating that Télétoon in Quebec will run Beyblade Burst Evolution on Saturday, February 3rd at 2:30PM. An additional new episode will air on Sundays at the same time.
The first season premiered on Télétoon on May 6, 2017, and concluded on December 24, 2017. The channel had been airing reruns since that season finale.
Notably, this broadcast will be the first time the French dub of the second season airs anywhere. While Canal J in France got the jump on Canada by a few months, the broadcaster finished season 1 in late October and has airing rerurns since. Presumably, the voice cast from the first season, which was recorded at SDI Media in Belgium, will return. Canal J has already committed to running Evolution later in the year.
In English Canada, Teletoon debuted Beyblade Burst Evolution on November 4, 2017. The series aired two weekend premieres until episode 17 aired on January 6th. The series has since looped back to the beginning of the second season.
This is where I point out that Télétoon’s website still has Tyson from the original Beyblade series as its icon for Burst. The character doesn’t appear in that show and the channel isn’t airing reruns of the first show…

- The first season of Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V concludes on Télétoon on January 27th at 1PM. The French dub, which was recorded by Plug-In Studios in Morroco,
appears to have been cancelled after the first 49-episode seasonupdate: premiered its second season in France on January 15th after a long hiatus. Teletoon has scheduled reruns of the first season in the same Saturday and Sunday time slots. Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V premiered on the French feed on July 22, 2017. The third season is ongoing in English Canada. - Turning Mecard’s first season ended on Teletoon on January 13th. Teletoon is currently airing reruns of the first season in the show’s Saturday and Sunday 2PM slots. An English dub for the follow-up season has yet to be announced. The series debuted in Canada on May 28, 2017.
The Mattel Action YouTube channel recently began streaming the first 26 episodes of the dub. Canada is one of a select few countries “lucky” enough to be allowed in:
Far less restricted is a new trailer Mattel has produced for the series. Notably, the voices featured are not the actual dub’s Hong Kong cast, but allegedly a few actors from Los Angeles. Some of the terminology has been changed. Mechanimals are now Mecardimals and the show has dropped the “Turning” part of its name. Is Mattel redubbing the show for its U.S. release or was that all just done for a trailer? Time will tell. - Moving onto another South Korean mecha cartoon, the pre-school oriented Robocar Poli began airing on Treehouse on January 6th. The series airs Saturdays and Sundays between 1:55PM and 2:20PM. Robocar Poli originally premiered in South Korea back in 2011. Its English dub, which is also available on YouTube and Netflix, is recorded in New York. The show’s appearance on Canadian television is likely the result of Imports Dragon. The Boisbriand, Québec based toy company is distributing the toyline in Canada. (Imports Dragon was almost certainly also behind Dinofroz’s Teletoon run)
Mary and the Witch’s Flower opened in the United States this weekend to positive reviews and a relatively solid box office. Don’t fret, we’re not being left out. GKids has confirmed the film from Studio Ghibli alum Studio Ponoc will play in at least 50 theatres in Canada in mid to late February. The company is currently attempting to secure the French language dub for a release in Quebec.
Those living in Vancouver have gotten a jump up on the rest of the country. VIFF started their English subtitled and dubbed run on Friday. Mary and the Witch’s Flower is currently scheduled to play until the 28th.
