Canadian Theatrical News: Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning
Toei Animation is bringing the latest Digimon theatrical film to Canadian theatres this March. Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning takes place after the events of 2020’s Last Evolution Kizuna and stars the cast of the franchise’s second series. The film opened in Japan last October, before receiving a limited release in the United States the following November. Notably, this is the first Digimon film since the initial Adventure Tri installment in 2016 to receive a Canadian run. It also marks the first direct Toei theatrical run in Canada without an intermediary distributor.
Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning was directed by Tomohisa Taguchi at Toei Animation from aorscript by Akatsuki Yamatoya. Harumi Fuuki composed the film’s score. All three previously worked on Last Evolution Kizuna in the same capacities.
It’s 2012, and ten years have passed since the adventure in the Digital World. Daisuke Motomiya is now twenty, and he and the rest of the DigiDestined seem to be changing bit by bit in terms of appearance and lifestyle. Then one day, a giant Digitama suddenly appears in the sky over Tokyo Tower. Daisuke and the others encounter a mysterious young man named Lui Ohwada, who informs them that he’s the first ever DigiDestined in the world…
The film will be screened in both English dubbed and subtitled Japanese formats beginning March 12th and 14th, respectively. To purchase tickets, click here: Cineplex (Dub | Sub) Landmark (Dub | Sub).
