Nelvana, Spin Master and TMS announce Bakugan: Evolutions launching in 2022

Nelvana, Spin Master and TMS Entertainment have announced the fourth season of Bakugan: Battle Planet. Titled Bakugan: Evolutions, the newest batch of episodes will debut in early 2022 in Canada on Teletoon.

The plot description is as follows:

In Bakugan: Evolutions, fan-favourite Bakugan heroes – including Drago, Trox, Pegatrix, Hydorous, Howlkor and Pharol – return stronger, faster and better than ever! Strange occurrences begin to happen in the new action-packed season; elemental energy from Vestroia is seeping into Earth, creating strange phenomena and causing Bakugan to rage out with excess energy! It’s not all bad though, as our heroes realize the Vestroian elemental energy is also causing elemental evolutions among our Bakugan! Along with these new evolutions comes a new breed of elemental brawlers, propelling the Awesome Brawlers to adapt and in effect, take Bakugan brawling to a whole new level, unlocking even more awesome powers and evolutions! Once again, the fate of two worlds, Earth and Vestroia, rests in the hands of the Awesome Brawlers and their Bakugan partners.

Evolutions is set to run for 26 half hours. It’s not clear if this refers to two 11-minute episodes or actual 22-minute ones. At the request of Cartoon Network, the Bakugan reboot had opted for the former format in all prior seasons.

The first season, Bakugan: Battle Planet (100 x 11), ran on Teletoon in Canada between December 31st, 2018 and February 9, 2020. The second season, Armored Alliance (104 x 11), premiered on February 16th, 2020 and concluded on January 3rd, 2021. The third season, Geogan Rising (52 x 11), premiered between January 24 and September 12, 2021. Reruns of all three seasons have also aired on YTV, with the French dub broadcast on Télétoon. The series is available to stream on Netflix and on Nelvana’s Cartoon Power Up YouTube channel.

While not much changed with Geogan Rising’s release in Canada, it saw a number of interesting developments abroad. In the United States, it became the first entry in the franchise (excluding the Japan-only BakuTech spinoff) to not air on Cartoon Network. Instead, episodes initially debuted on Netflix before being streamed for free on other platforms. In Japan, the series moved to a streaming-only release with the start of Armored Alliance, but Geogan Rising’s reduced episode count shifted its release to a bi-weekly schedule.
