Crave to stream Viz’s Sailor Moon dub in September

Bell Media’s Crave streaming service will add all 200 episodes of the original 1992-1997 Sailor Moon anime. Marking the first time Viz’s uncut English dub will be available streaming in Canada, it will debut on September 18th.

Viz acquired all five seasons and its accompanying films/specials of the original Sailor Moon series in 2014. Until now, the new dub, produced by Studiopolis in the United States, was only accessible through the home video and download-to-own releases. The company expressed interest in getting the show on YTV, though that never materialized. In July 2016, Viz partnered up with Tubi TV to launch the subtitled version in Canada. Both the dubbed and subbed versions of Sailor Moon R: The Movie are available to stream on Crunchyroll and Funimation in Canada and the United States.

YTV previously aired the original, Toronto-produced dub of Sailor Moon between August 28, 1995, and April 8, 2002. Their broadcast encompassed the show’s first four seasons and its three theatrical features. Reruns lasted until January 2, 2004, which coincided with the franchise’s withdrawal from global distribution. The show also aired on Global, with French broadcasts on TVA.

This is the first Viz-distributed anime series to stream on Crave. It appears to also be the first anime the service has added outside of pre-existing catalogue deals.

Thanks Jesse and NJ.
