Dragalia Lost, Langrisser Mobile games feature Canadian voice actors

Back on January 22nd, Chinese developer ZLONGAME launched Langrisser Mobile for Android and iOS devices globally. The game blends new and old from the Japanese SRPG franchise’s 25+ year history. Joining it late last month was the Canadian debut of Dragalia Lost, the new mobile property from Cygames (Granblue Fantasy, Rage of Bahamut) and Nintendo. The game was initially released in Japan, the U.S. and other territories last fall.

Why am I talking about two random mobile games? Well, in a surprising move, the English versions of both were recorded in Vancouver.

Dragalia Lost stars regulars of the area like Vincent Tong, Tabitha St. Germain, Sabrina Pitre and Paul Dobson alongside newer actors. Some you might recognize from Beyblade Burst, others are from the L.A.-area and a bunch are unknowns under pseudonyms …

Langrisser is even more mysterious, defaulting to Japanese audio and not crediting the English cast at all. I haven’t sunk much time into the game yet, but my ears picked out Cole Howard as game original character Matthew, Brad Swaile as Langrisser II’s Elwin, and Brian Dobson as a bunch of the grunt soldiers. The IMDb page for the game has a few other actors attached, but I can’t confirm the legitimacy of that info.

New Mega Man: Fully Charged episodes on Family Chrgd

You can hear many of those same voices in Mega Man: Fully Charged. The Canada-Japan-U.S. co-production is returning to Family Chrgd with new episodes this month. The channel had been airing reruns since the show’s mid-season finale last November. Starting with “A Guilded Cage”, new episodes will air daily between March 11 and March 17 at 4:30PM. Additional new episodes will run weekly beginning Sunday, March 24 at 8:45AM.

Produced by DHX Media’s Vancouver studio in collaboration with Man of Action, Dentsu Entertainment USA and Capcom, Mega Man: Fully Charged consists of 52 eleven-minute episodes. The series debuted in the United States on Cartoon Network last August (in the unenviable 6:30AM Sunday slot). The Canadian Family Chrgd run followed a few weeks later.

Another highlight on Chrgd for March Break is the debut of The Deep’s third season. DHX’s Australian-Canadian-French nautical adventure series will see new episodes every weekday next week at 5PM.

All times in eastern.

Theatrical News Catchup: Ghibli, Fate, In This Corner of the World

In mid-February, GKIDS confirmed Cineplex would be carrying Ghibli Fest 2019 in Canada. The event sees a significant amount of Studio Ghibli films screened theatrically for a limited time. While the chain did take part in the 2017 edition, last year’s event was exclusively the domain of smartly opportunistic indie theatres in Canada. Cineplex has already opened ticket pre-orders for a handful of the nine movies planned for the 2019 showcase. Expect a dedicated post in the next few days.

I’d also like to point out that the theatre listing for Fate/stay night [Heaven’s Feel] II. lost butterfly has been updated. In addition to Cineplex, Landmark will also carry the film in select locations. The current count of 45 theatres nationwide eclipses the theatre total of the first [Heaven’s Feel] in Canada. The second film screens next week and a number of screenings have already sold out.

Lastly, if you’re in the Vancouver-area, you might be interested in checking out the Vancity Theatre’s subtitled screenings of In This Corner of the World on March 19th and 20th. The film received a limited run in select Canadian cities in 2017.

Thanks Oscar.
