Bakugan: Battle Planet to debut on Teletoon on December 31st, YTV in January

Bakugan is back. The Canada-Japan toy phenomenon is about to kick into its second generation with Spin Master, Nelvana, TMS Entertainment and Takara Tomy. The 100 eleven-minute episode reboot Bakugan: Battle Planet will debut on Teletoon on December 31st at 3PM, with new episodes (airing in 22-minute chunks) continuing in that slot the entire week. The series will then move into its regular 11:30AM Saturday morning slot on January 12th. If you aren’t able to watch Teletoon, YTV will also start airing reruns of Battle Planet starting January 11th at 3PM (with an encore Sundays at 9:30PM). It’ll be the first Japanese-animated series on the channel since the purge in 2014 that resulted in the removal of nearly all action programming on the channel.

The United States gets the show a week earlier, courtesy of Cartoon Network. The network will host the show’s global premiere on December 23rd at 7PM with a four eleven-minute episode marathon. The series will then run daily at 7AM before moving into its regular 7AM Saturday morning slot on January 5th. The first two episodes are now available to watch through the channel’s website and app (U.S.-only), with eight more expected to drop on V.O.D. platforms on the 21st.  Continue reading

CRTC reveals 2017 TV channel financial data

The CRTC released their financial report for Canadian broadcasting in 2017. Tracked between September 1, 2016 and August 31, 2017, total broadcasting revenue dropped 3.3% year-over-year. The total number of TV (cable/IPTV/satelite) subscribers in the country declined 1.9% from the year before.

Do note that the CRTC has changed the way they’ve distributed information on individual channels. Rather than separate pages for each service hosted on their website, they’ve instead dumped all of it in a large PDF file on Open Canada. View the blog’s coverage on last year’s results here. The Guardian Code reveal disappoints ReBoot fans

With shooting in Vancouver and Victoria set to wrap up this week, Corus Entertainment and Mainframe Studios (a unit of Rainmaker Animation, which in turn is a division of WOW! Unlimited Media) have officially announced new details and have shared the first production stills from their reboot of the classic 1994 Canadian animated series, ReBoot. The live-action/CG-animated hybrid, titled ReBoot: The Guardian Code, is set to air on YTV in Canada in 2018. Confirming some things we already knew, the first season will run for 20 episodes (down from its initial 26 episode order in 2015) and will be an action-comedy about four teens becoming Guardians of cyberspace.
