The Guardian Code reveal disappoints ReBoot fans

With shooting in Vancouver and Victoria set to wrap up this week, Corus Entertainment and Mainframe Studios (a unit of Rainmaker Animation, which in turn is a division of WOW! Unlimited Media) have officially announced new details and have shared the first production stills from their reboot of the classic 1994 Canadian animated series, ReBoot. The live-action/CG-animated hybrid, titled ReBoot: The Guardian Code, is set to air on YTV in Canada in 2018. Confirming some things we already knew, the first season will run for 20 episodes (down from its initial 26 episode order in 2015) and will be an action-comedy about four teens becoming Guardians of cyberspace. Ending A 16 Year Run On YTV, Pokémon Heads To Teletoon

It looks like Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal‘s Teletoon premiere was foreshadowing something yet to come. Ending a run that started in 1998, YTV has pulled Pokémon and the rest of its anime programming from its lineup. This includes shows like Beyraiderz, Digimon Fusion, B-Daman Crossfire and the aforementioned Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal. That would usually be bad news but along with Power Rangers: Super Megaforce, most of those shows are moving to Teletoon. Continue reading

YTV debuts the final seven episodes of Beyblade: Shogun Steel exclusively online

unairedshogunsteel

When Beywarriors: Beyraiderz began airing on YTV, I mentioned that the western-exclusive Beyblade spinoff had replaced the time slot of the latest mainline show, Beyblade: Shogun Steel. YTV’s broadcast of the show ended prematurely at episode nineteen. At the time, I expected the show to simply go on hiatus while Beyraiderz aired as a promotional tie-in for toys hitting the shelves, but it looks like that won’t be the case. YTV has announced that the final seven episodes of the series will only be available to stream through their website. They’ve already posted the first four episodes to watch. Continue reading

Digimon Fusion is airing on YTV

digimonfusion

In late January, a few blogs associated with Saban Brands’ Ambassador program posted up articles stating that Digimon Fusion, the company’s adaptation of Digimon Xros Wars, would be airing on YTV starting February 28th. I teased that tidbit in I Miss Bionix’s coverage of that recent Pokémon invasion. Ultimately Zap2it, and YTV’s schedule didn’t agree with that premiere date, so I figured things were pushed back. Apparently it was just a single week as it looks like the show premiered on March 7th. Episode 3 premieres this Friday at 7:30AM EDT. Continue reading

Beyblade: Shogun Steel premieres this Saturday on YTV

As one of the two remaining anime series on YTV, and therefore mainstream Canadian television I guess this is an important thing to note. The next season/series in the Beyblade: Metal ___ reboot launches this Saturday at 11:30AM ET. Rather than a direct followup to Beyblade: Metal Fury, Shogun Steel stars new blader Zyro Hagane with the Metal ___ cast in mentor-ship roles as they’ve been aged up. It’s important to note that this is the final season of the modern Beyblade reboot to air in Japan, but don’t worry as we know Nelvana’s got more original spinoffs on the way. Continue reading

YTV’s Fall 2013 Highlights features a bunch of Nickelodeon content

I’m probably going to stop writing about these soon. YTV will air additional seasons of Mr. Young, Extreme Babysitting, Big Time Rush, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Beyblade, SpongeBob SquarePants, Monsters vs. Aliens, Kung Fu Panda, Legend of Korra, T.U.F.F. Puppy and The Fairly OddParents. On the new acquisitions side, the network has little outside of more Nickelodeon imports. If that’s your thing you can look forward to Sanjay and Craig, See Dad Run, Wendell & Vinnie, The Haunted Hathaways, The Thundermans as well as Sam & Cat. Remember when some of us thought that the addition of Nickelodeon Canada would leave YTV free of that network’s programming? Hahaha … That leaves us with these two world premieres:

Oh-No-Its-an-Alien-Invasion-post

OH NO! It’s an Alien Invasion is a hilarious Home Alone meets War of the Worlds style series for kids, in which a crazy band of partying aliens have invaded earth and hidden all of the planet’s grownups! This would make most kids uneasy, but not Nate; he’s been training for this moment his whole life. He and his Super Wicked Extreme Emergency Team (S.W.E.E.T.) are on the case to take back the world. Operating from their secret headquarters at the Swell-Mart, they must wage a resistance against the zany Brainlings (the Aliens), and find their parents. The animated series is produced by Nelvana Studio and written and developed by Philippe Ivanusic-Vallee and Peter Ricq, part of the creative team behind League of Super Evil.

Digimon Fusion heads to Nickelodeon in the US, YTV broadcast in Canada pending?

Digimon_FusionDigimon Fusion has been confirmed for broadcast on Nickelodeon in the United States. This is a surprise for a variety of reasons, firstly, Nickelodeon proper rarely airs acquired programming, even less of that being anime (you’d have to go back to early 00s with Speed Racer X to find the last instance of proper Japan produced animation on the network if memory serves) and secondly, the franchise’s licensor, Saban Brands, owns the Vortexx block on The CW. Many thought the company would emulate nostalgia of the 90s by premiering new episodes of the series on their weekly Saturday morning network block, just as Saban Entertainment did with Digimon on FOX Kids back in the 90s/early 00s.
