Voltron: Legendary Defender to air on Family CHRGD

DHX Media’s Family CHRGD channel will air Voltron: Legendary Defender. A special presentation of the series is set for Sunday, July 22nd at 5 PM, with the series officially running every weekday at 9:20 AM/1:30 PM/6:30 PM (all times eastern).

A re-imagining of World Event Production’s 1984-1985 Voltron: Defender of the Universe series, itself a loose adaptation/combination of Toei Animation’s Beast King GoLion and later Armored Fleet Dairugger XV, Legendary Defender debuted on Netflix in June 2016. The series, produced by DreamWorks Animation Television and WEP (with animation by Avatar/Legend of Korra’s Studio Mir in South Korea) has been greenlit for at least 78 episodes, of which 52 have been released to date. Its broadcast on Family CHRGD comes as a result of a production and distribution agreement between DHX Media and DreamWorks. Continue reading

CRTC reveals 2017 TV channel financial data

The CRTC released their financial report for Canadian broadcasting in 2017. Tracked between September 1, 2016 and August 31, 2017, total broadcasting revenue dropped 3.3% year-over-year. The total number of TV (cable/IPTV/satelite) subscribers in the country declined 1.9% from the year before.

Do note that the CRTC has changed the way they’ve distributed information on individual channels. Rather than separate pages for each service hosted on their website, they’ve instead dumped all of it in a large PDF file on Open Canada. View the blog’s coverage on last year’s results here. CRTC reveals 2016 TV channel financial data

Warning: This is a long one.

It took a little longer than usual, but the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has revealed the individual TV channel financial data for the broadcast year starting September 1, 2015, and ending August 31, 2016. I’ll be highlighting figures from channels that are somewhat relevant to this blog, so feel free to dig through your favourite (or least favourite) TV channel’s data. How many of them operate with 0 full-time staff? The answer is too many. Continue reading

Family CHRGD picks up Marvel Anime: Iron Man

Whoa, three posts in the same month? Is this 2010?

Whoa, three updates in the same month. Are we in 2010?

Family CHRGD’s website has announced that Marvel Anime: Iron Man will premiere on the channel on Saturday, May 7 at 11:30AM ET. Zap2it lists an encore at 5:30PM that same day. This will be the show’s Canadian television debut. The first part of the Marvel Anime project serves as Family CHRGD’s first taste of Japanese animation (even going back to the Disney XD Canada days). This is also the first older youth oriented anime series to run on mainstream Canadian TV in years.

Here’s a completely misleading teaser for the show that will make you wish it was the show: Continue reading

Family Gets CHRGD Up, While Yo-Kai Watch’s Canadian Debut Is Pushed Back A Week [Updated 10/4/2015]

Original title: “Sonic Boom gets CHRGD with Yo-Kai Watch’s delay.” I dropped it because I wanted people to understand what I was talking about.

Despite Zap2it and pretty much every other listings site saying so, Yo-Kai Watch won’t be premiering on Teletoon this weekend. The channel’s official schedule lists the 32nd episode of Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5 in the 2PM Saturday slot. A press release from franchise creator Level-5 confirms the Canadian premiere for October 10th in the same time slot. Continue reading
