Wow! Unlimited buys Bell cable channel in “strategic partnership in kids and youth entertainment”

Wow! Unlimited, the amalgamation of Rainmaker, Frederator, and Ezrin Hirsh Entertainment, teased acquisitions during the company’s announcement last fall and the first big one has been revealed. Yesterday afternoon, Wow! Unlimited struck a “strategic partnership in kids and youth entertainment” that will see the animation company purchase a cable channel from Bell Media. The new channel is tentatively titled Wow. The companies will also collaborate on various other initiatives, including providing content for Bell’s streaming services. Continue reading

The Guardian Code reveal disappoints ReBoot fans

With shooting in Vancouver and Victoria set to wrap up this week, Corus Entertainment and Mainframe Studios (a unit of Rainmaker Animation, which in turn is a division of WOW! Unlimited Media) have officially announced new details and have shared the first production stills from their reboot of the classic 1994 Canadian animated series, ReBoot. The live-action/CG-animated hybrid, titled ReBoot: The Guardian Code, is set to air on YTV in Canada in 2018. Confirming some things we already knew, the first season will run for 20 episodes (down from its initial 26 episode order in 2015) and will be an action-comedy about four teens becoming Guardians of cyberspace. Remember this? Still trying to forget? Well, too bad, because unlike season 5 and that movie trilogy, ReBoot: The Guardian Code looks like a thing that will actually exist. A casting call went live last month looking for young actors to play the leads in the CG/live action hybrid. The sheet reveals the show’s general plot outline and more on the characters. Fans are definitely in for something.

ReBoot: The Guardian Code is a live-action/CG animated action-comedy hybrid series about four teenagers who discover on their first day of high school that they’ve been selected to become the Next-Generation Guardians of Cyberspace. Their selection began months earlier when they started playing the multiplayer Cyber-Guardian video game together online. Now Austin, Parker, Tamra, and Grey have to make their gamertags – VECTOR, GOOGZ, ENIGMA, and D-FRAG – into more than just names, and protect cyberspace from threats both within and without. Threats that also pose great risk to the real world. It’s more than these kids expected when they started high school. Way more…

YTV debuts the final seven episodes of Beyblade: Shogun Steel exclusively online

When Beywarriors: Beyraiderz began airing on YTV, I mentioned that the western-exclusive Beyblade spinoff had replaced the time slot of the latest mainline show, Beyblade: Shogun Steel. YTV’s broadcast of the show ended prematurely at episode nineteen. At the time, I expected the show to simply go on hiatus while Beyraiderz aired as a promotional tie-in for toys hitting the shelves, but it looks like that won’t be the case. YTV has announced that the final seven episodes of the series will only be available to stream through their website. They’ve already posted the first four episodes to watch. Continue reading

Digimon Fusion is airing on YTV

digimonfusion

In late January, a few blogs associated with Saban Brands’ Ambassador program posted up articles stating that Digimon Fusion, the company’s adaptation of Digimon Xros Wars, would be airing on YTV starting February 28th. I teased that tidbit in I Miss Bionix’s coverage of that recent Pokémon invasion. Ultimately Zap2it, and YTV’s schedule didn’t agree with that premiere date, so I figured things were pushed back. Apparently it was just a single week as it looks like the show premiered on March 7th. Episode 3 premieres this Friday at 7:30AM EDT. Continue reading

Pokemon Movie 16 PosterYTV’s online schedule has confirmed that the network will air Pokémon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Awakened, as well as its prequel TV special, Pokémon: Mewtwo – Prologue to Awakening, on February 8th starting at 3:30PM EST. The duo premiered last summer on Japanese TVs, and cinemas before a brief theatrical run in October followed by a Cartoon Network broadcast last month in the US. Leading up to the special broadcast YTV will be airing the final two episodes of the Pokémon Black & White: Adventures in Unova and Beyond TV anime beginning at 2:30PM EST.

Pokémon.com describes the sixteenth feature’s plot as: Continue reading

YTV will premiere B-Daman: Crossfire on September 7th

I was a bit perplexed by some omissions in YTV, and Teletoon’s fall programming highlights this year but didn’t really care enough about the shows to write a post about them. I wasn’t expecting a Canadian rendition of [adult swim]’s Toonami or anything, but seemingly safe bet children’s anime like Digimon: Fusion, B-Daman: Crossfire, and Tenkai Knights were no where to be seen despite pending product and US broadcast launches. It appears that at least one of those is making a debut this side of the border. Internet scheduling giant Zap2it! lists a September 7th broadcast at 1:30PM Eastern by the title of “Battle B-Daman” on YTV. I’m going to assume that the channel will not be airing a 22 minute toy commercial from ten years ago, but rather it’s a mix up for the newest B-Daman series, B-Daman: Crossfire. Crossfire launched in the US on The CW’s Vortexx Saturday morning block on August 17th.
