Canadian Theatrical News: The Night is Short, Walk on Girl

GKIDS is bringing Masaaki Yuasa’s The Night is Short, Walk on Girl movie to North American theatres this month. The film, which opened in Japan in April 2017, will get an art house run in Canada, though our neighbors down south will receive a much larger Fathom Events release.

Based on Tomihiko Morimi’s 2006 novel of the same name, The Night is Short, Walk on Girl reunites director Yuasa with his The Tatami Galaxy writer Makoto Ueda and composer Michiru Oshima. The film was animated at Yuasa’s Science Saru.

From the visionary mind of director Masaaki Yuasa (Mind Game, Lu Over The Wall) comes The Night is Short, Walk On Girl, a comedy about one epic night in Kyoto. As a group of teens go out for a night on the town, a sophomore known only as “The Girl with Black Hair” experiences a series of surreal encounters with the local nightlife… all the while unaware of the romantic longings of Senpai, a fellow student who has been creating increasingly fantastic and contrived reasons to run into her, in an effort to win her heart.
