Canadian Theatrical News: Kizumonogatari Part 3: Reiketsu

I’d usually apologize for the short notice, but this time it’s not my fault. There’s been no formal announcement of this (as far as I can tell) and ticket sales only went live earlier this week. Sometimes I find out about things long before they’ll be topical. Other times, I’ve only heard about them well after they were the topic du jour. Today’s post? I guess I stumbled onto it at the right time.

Aniplex of America, Azoland Pictures and Cineplex are bringing the third film in the Kizumonogatari series to five Canadian cinemas next week. Reiketsu is the final entry in the trilogy and retains the same production staff as the two prior releases, as Akiyuki Shinbo and Tatsuya Oishi handled directing duties, while Monogatari creator Nisio Isin wrote the script. Shaft and Aniplex handled production. The third film opened in Japan on January 6, 2017. In the US, Aniplex of America handled a launch last April. As Aniplex doesn’t dub the Monogatari material, it shouldn’t be a shock to say this screening will be only available in Japanese with English subtitles.

With help from Meme Oshino, the apparition specialist, Koyomi defeats the three powerful vampire hunters: Dramaturgy, Episode and Guillotinecutter. Koyomi takes back all the limbs of Kiss-Shot-Acerola-Orion-Heart-Underblade in order to become a human again. But, when he returns to Kiss-Shot, she reveals to him the cold truth of what it means to be a vampire—a creature of the night. Unable to take back what he has done, Koyomi feels nothing but regret and can only deny his dreadful fate. While Koyomi is struggling to face reality, his “friend” Tsubasa Hanekawa comes to him with a certain plan…

Halifax, Nova Scotia Cineplex Cinemas Park Lane 06/18 @ 3:30PM/9:10PM
Ottawa, Ontario Cineplex Odeon South Keys Cinemas 06/18 @ 3:30PM/5:30PM/7:35PM/9:35PM
Toronto, Ontario Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas and VIP 06/18 @ 3:30PM/6:30PM/9:30PM
Vancouver, British Columbia The Park Theatre 06/18 @ 3:30PM/5:20PM/7:15PM

As always, keep your eyes locked on Cineplex’s page for any last minute changes. Azoland’s website listed a free mini-poster with ticket purchase in the US. I can’t guarantee that’ll happen here, but Cineplex has typically followed suit with the anime freebies.

The Canadian engagement strikes me as a surprise. While Kizumonogatari Part 1: Tekketsu got a run in Canada at four venues, which reported a few sellouts last September, we never got Part 2: Nekketsu… If you’re interested in seeing the third movie and want to catch up, both prior films are available on Blu-Ray at your typical Aniplex prices. In the US, some theatres ran a double feature of the two earlier Kizumonogataris prior to Reiketsu’s release, but that does not appear to be the case in Canada.

Thanks Milo.

You’re welcome! I was just keeping an eye on this one and noticed the ticket button appeared. This Corner of the World has had a Canadian release date for August 11, 2017, but the ticket button’s still missing, but keep your fingers crossed.

Just FYI, Kizu 2’s info page has been removed from Cineplex and never had a release date.

    • I’ve stopped reporting on prelim Cineplex ticket listings because so many of them fall through. Before they start selling tickets, it’s not rare to see them push the dates around or just cancel it entirely.

Funimation is handling This Corner, but IIRC their press release specifically stated the US. Then again, I think the same was true of Black Butler, which is getting a small run up here.
