Dentsu Entertainment USA, Nelvana, and Fuel Entertainment are working on an animated Chub City show
This is a project that dates back to 2009 when Dentsu Entertainment USA (then known as DCI-LA) first bought the urban youth Chub City diecast car brand from Jada Toys with the intent of launching an animated series. With that project seemingly on ice the company has since worked on a variety of anime related projects including Deltora Quest, Monsuno, and Little Battlers eXperience but Chub City isn’t done yet. Dentsu Entertainment has announced a partnership with both Nelvana and Fuel Entertainment to make this project actually happen. Dentsu describes the action comedy series as:
The series follows the adventures of a team of heroic teenagers who drive customized cars at Chub City battle rallies. These rally sites pop-up spontaneously in different parts of the world, with teams arriving by train, ship, truck, and helicopter in container units called Convos that become the building blocks for these instant cities. The stories ind the humor in the relationships of the diverse team of drivers and the awkward bond that forms with their more logical sentient cars, all while battling to recover a powerful hidden energy source.
It’s the sentient cars part that makes me laugh.
None of the companies involved shared an expected release window, or any attached broadcast partners.
